errr you do relize that the firemouths are semi-aggresive and they will eat the neons and cherry barbs when they get bigger?
have a rethink...

Both would most likely make a meal of your smaller fish
There are other smaller types of cichlids that would do ok in with your other fish like keyholes, apistos or rams?

Both of those fish would have a go at any of the fish in your tank when then get bigger, so i agree, I would rethink the stocking list. If you do want firemouth or convicts, you would have to move every thing that is now in your tank.

If you get either of them, yo uare going to have to move ALL the fish. The pairs will go nuts with any other fish in the tank when they are breeding. The betta and dwarf gourami have to be moved.

I don't think it's necessarily that there are certain types of fish that will cause problems, it's that they become agressive when breeding regardless of what other fish are in the tank.

In the wild they may be living with other fish but we're talking about a much smaller space.

There are other cichlids you could have in a 30g.

I think a pair of firemouths would tolerate a few livebearers. platys would be best as they stay small enough to not outgrow the tank and big enough to not get eaten. the platy fry would be eaten, but this is a part of the natural diet of firemouths anyway.

If you go with convicts, I'd find new homes for all the fish in that tank because convicts aren't as tolerant, imo as firemouths.

My vote would be for firemouths.

My roomate had two rams in a thirty gallon, so he decided to put a convict in. Big mistake!! The convict had killed the rams in a matter of days. he put hiding places in there but the convict just hunted them down. it was unfortunate.
