I'm purchasing 8 Multies and I will have them on Tuesday. I also have already purchased a bag that contained 27 escargot shells. My question is how many of the shells should I put in the tank. Is there a ratio of shells to fish?

Put all of them in. With multis, the more the better, almost with no limit. In the wild multis live on shell piles as much as 20 feet deep; the ideal multi tank, in terms of replicating their ideal environment, wouldn't bother with a substrate but would have layers of shells - but, without undershell jets that'd be a bit tough to keep spotless, so I'd recommend a thin layer of sand and at least two big shell piles. The 27 is a great number to start with, but keep an eye out for more.

Ok, thanks a lot for the reply. I actually got those shells on E-BAY of all places. I got em for only 3 bucks and 2.50 shipping so it was 5.50 usd for everything. I couldn't find any anywhere else so good ol' e-bay bailed me out.
