i've been looking for a substrate for africans, i would like one that buffers the ph to about 8-8.5 and also the hardness,
i've seen substrates made just for africans but they are all dark or black.http://www.aquatics-online.co.uk/Z534184.asp

i would perfer a lighter colour would this stuff be ok.

Florida Crushed Coral, Geo-Marine Formula

It’s the only crushed coral with aragonite, which provides up to 25 times the buffering power of other crushed corals, dolomite or oyster shell.

Eliminates chronic pH problems and provides maximum surface area for water purifying bacteria.

CaribSea’s Florida Crushed Coral with aragonite allows an increase in bioload by up to 50% and it never needs replacement! Approx 2-5mm diameter (1/8 - 1/4&#8221.

This product is also able to be utilized in calcium reactors and plenum systems to deliver not only calcium, but also carbonate buffer, and essential trace elements such as strontium (up to 10,000 ppm!).

Not sure if you have a Home Depot where your located, there is a white play sand that does have buffering capabilities, it's commonly found outside in the garden area, it will be a 50lb bag of white sand with a boy in blue overalls on the cover. It is similiar to aragonite.

Any type of white play sand should work, Lace rock will make a nice contrast against that and will help raise and stabilize your ph levels to be ideal of that for african tanks.
