at a lfs there are cichlids, labled under asst. african cichlids. usually some albinos etc. of cichlids that i don't know. now to me it sounds fishy, but i would like some african cichlids to try. i have some frontosa, will they get along with african cichlids, but i have no idea what kind they are. they seem cheap, like around 7 dollars.

If they are labeled as assorted Cichlids & are cheap, i wouldn't trust them, as you aren't 100% sure of what they are. Assorted can be anything from mild to aggressive Cichlids.

Around here Assorted African Cichlids means lower end Malawi's. I have never seen Tang. cichlids in the assorted group.

They're typically a mixed bag of mbuna, often with some hybrids. You can easily end up with extremely aggressive fish that will be happy to do serious damage to your Fronts. Plus, the diets of mbuna and fronts aren't compatible, generally, and you'd be mixing lakes.

Good Front companions are more along the lines of B. tricoti or large A. compressiceps.

Ya fronts and the assrts wouldn't be good. The fronts would eat them when the fronts get bigger too. Although if you didn't have all the other factore diet isn't a limiting factor any more. Both would thrive on a diet of NLS and be fine.
