That's why you should buy your entire species at one time... The best thing you can do now is totaly rearrange your cave system, it will get rid of the territories and will help tone down the aggression.

This is one idea
Throw some floating plants in the top of the tank in one corner. Plastic ones work great too. Just a big cluster in the corner. They will allow for refugee for the new cichlid. This will allow the cichlid to hide at the top and will keep it away from the confrontational territorial bottom. After a while it "should" orientiate itself to the tank and find its pecking order.
I always try add new cichlids in groups of at least two. Try to change the decor around while floating bag and distract fish while introducing new fish. You can try to feed the fish in one side and release the fish on the other side near the bottom of the tank using the net. It also depends on the number of fish and species of cichlid too.

i would take out the bully then change the decor around put in the new fish then put the bully back in. this will make the bully think he is in another tank and territories will be split between them.

the floating plant idea works best with cichlid fry but the new cichlid will go into the plants for coverage

both will give better luck to the new cichlid

goodluck

how many do you have in the tank, it may jsut be the fact that you do not have enough in the tank to disperse the aggesion in the tank.
