I have, but it is very rare,. There is an angel forum. I haven't been to it in quite a while, so i don't know if its still there. But i used to belong to it. I don't know the name sorry. But yeah i have heard of them bein bred but it is a very rare occasion. ANd if you see them again....... PICK THEM UP. i would get as many as i could afford and stock. SO good find and good luck.

Altum angels are VERY rare. They are seen as often as some saltwater angels, so being able to pick some up is a fortunate situation.

Altum angels can and have been bred in captivity, and those who succeed with it are VERY pleased with what most fish stores will offer them for the young.

From what I have gathered, taking care of altums is VERY similar to Discus care, but breeding them is even harder. Altums are VERY picky about their breeding conditions, and don't pair off as easy as scalares.

I personally want some. At my store, where I work, we have a 220 gallon, and I want to stock it with Altums, Discus, tetras, and many other amazonian fish.

Altums are fairly rare, but when they make an appearance, they aren't overly expensive. Every so often, rainforest farms stocks themselves to the brim with altums, and are consequently cheaper. I've heard that the requirements for keeping altums are nearly the same as those of scalares, only difference would be gallonage/ problems pertaining to the size difference of the two. They're even rumored to be hardier than normal angels. Next year, when I get my own dorm, I'm probably going to be purchasing a pair from RFF, as they're usually only 15 bucks a piece during catching season.
