I put up a 75 gallon tank was going to try something new other than my Oscars (which I love). So I asked my boyfriend and gout out voted. I thought he would cry when I mentioned not getting Oscars. So I am trying to figure out what I should do.......Am I crazy for putting these together...???? 1 or 2 Oscars (they will be going into a larger tank when they need it)- 1 Jack - 2 Jewels (which I know work well with my Oscars - and maybe 2 peacocks.....

Got any better ideas...??????

thanks

How big are the oscars? The jack might get in to a lot of fights with the oscars. But I think the jewels would be all right. What I would get would be a pair of firemouths or a pair of convicts.

the oscars will be small maybe 2 inches I am going to buy a new pair. The whole tank will be new. My other Oscars will remain in the other tank. Thanks maybe I will forget the Jack and get more jewel's my 2 I have not are so peaceful and get along great. I had terrible luck with adding Convicts to that mix though. They killed my albino Oscar before and just about got the rest of the tank. Are the peacocks really not a good idea???? I wanted to add something that had alittle color to it.

peacocks are african rift species and do better in hard water with high pH. this is opposite what your oscars and a JD would like.

also, peacocks are pretty timid in comparison to many South American species. your oscars will grow very quickly and will likely cause the peacocks problems.

i'd look for another south american cichlid to go with the oscars.

hope that helps.

Now, with all fish there are always exceptions. My cousin has a full grown Jack, and two paired full grown Oscors together. Keep in mind its a 240g tank. Thats it except of the food he puts in there

Typically;
When the fish you selected become mature they will fight and you will be left with one or two fish

I have seen people get two oscors, they grew up and one fine morning they were attacking eachother, one ended up dead.

Jack's did not get thier name just because someone thought it was cool. Jack D was a powerfully agressive and strong Boxer in his time. The adult fish is much the same way. In some cases they will not share a tank period.

There are exceptions and maybe you'll get lucky, or maybe you'll have the space and cash to seperate them if things get heated.

Other wise I would not put that combo of fish in that tank.

IMHO
