I had two for awhile. They were very skiddish fish. Maybe I had to many places for them to hide Mine paired up after about a year and had the fry and then ate them all I just recently gave them to a local LFS. I think they are a little dull in color. Mine only became colorful when made or when they bred. I went by and saw them the other day and the LFS owner commented on how attached they were to each other. I know this is not alot of help but I truly enjoy my yellow labs, jewels and ruby red much better.

They are a much looked over species because of their dull colour while their young. They are a mild tempered fish and tend to nip fins more than harras other fish. They are a relitivly small species and will need around 30g

I'm keeping two juveniles, currently in a ~26gallon breeder tank.

What do you want to know exactly?

Mine are friendly, and know you're their source of food. They sift through the sand with their mouths and are generally well mannered so far.

When breeding their bottom half becomes black and the top half a deep mustard yellow. Healthy adults can change colours in a heartbeat (hence their name).

If kept well, they will breed like convicts.. or so I've heard.
