Those who have a flat belly are probably males and the fatter are probably females. Males also usually have a hump on their head. |

Females dont always hold eggs...they're not always that round. Usually people tell when they are spawning, or the more ![]() ![]() |

Apparently this distance is greater in females than in males, noticeably so if you have 2 side by side. In my breeding pair the differences are: Longer gap from fin to fin in the female, male has a large bump on his forehead, females head is smooth and rounded, female is very plump in the belly, male is very sleek and slim. Also, if you get a couple angels, and you notice 2 that seem to squabble a bit at first, then hang out a lot together, thats a pretty good sign one is male and one is female. Also, if two decide to start cleaning something, another clear sign. After 2 have paired up it is much easier to judge male from female. Pete is on the right track with the pectoral distance. However, that still tends to yeild some inaccurate results. By far the best way to sex your angels is shining a light on them, with a piece of cardboard behind the particular fish you desire to sex. If you see a pear shaped organ near the genital region, you have a female, if not, it's a male. |

The males vent is very small and round. When exposed it looks like a splinter sticking out and leans forward. This has never failed me yet! Good Luck |
