They are fine alone, but I wouldn't put even one in a 20 gallon tank. Angels get too big. The one large male that I have now is about 3 inches body diameter, and 8 inches (at least) high. I can't imagine putting my big male in the 20 gallon I have. Besides, they are cichlids after all, so they need some space for territory.

Angels are fine on their own, but a 20Gal. is too small for the Angel when it will grow up.

Folks breed full grown angels in 20 talls - height is more important for angels than other cichlids. If you're talking about a 20 long, I agree it's too small. I think one in a 20 tall would be fine, but a 29 gallon tank would be better and fine for a pair.

Yes, but the angels are only there for, how long? A couple days, a week? Most breeders don't rely on the angels to raise their eggs. Besides, during that time, they won't be moving very far from the eggs anyways. Comparing a breeding situation to regular, every-day life for them isn't very accurate.

How soon will this bigger tank come? You may stunt your angel if you keep it in a small tank like that. By the time you realize it, it will already be stunted. Remember, it would grow faster in a bigger tank as well.

Janna, the breeding pair stays in the tank and you remove the eggs.

I have kept a pair in a 20 tall though I got them a 29 later. I would say 1 Angel in a 20 is fine long term. If you put 2 in I would not have any other fish in with them.

Have fun, Mike
