a friend of mine has done this & i also want to get an angelfish but i am not sure if she is taking care of it correctly.

it's in a 2 gallon tank right now, alone. i have a 2.5 gallon and i wonder if i get an angelfish to live alone in there is a bad idea.

Angelfish tend to get fairly big - I think you'll find 2 gallons is a tad on the small side. :-)

Good for you for checking and welcome to FP.

Angels can get 4 inches without the fins. 8 inches tall with the fins. The tank is too small. You need a 20 gal high at least. Bigger yet is even better. A 29 could hold a couple Angels and a few other fish (not many) to boot.

If you decide to get a tank check back and we'll help you get it started.

Have fun, Mike

April,

There are some nice options out there for stocking a small aquarium, but I'm afraid that 2 gallons isn't big enough for an angelfish. I have a single angel that does very well in a 29 gallon tank and I don't think I'd go too much smaller than that, personally.

Is a larger tank (20+) an option for you at this point?

well thanks everyone .. !!!

nothing too large is an option for me at this point, so that is why i wanted to check before doing anything.

i will be moving this summer though and have plenty of room to hopefully do something with that.

until now i will stick with my bettas ...

Good idea to stick with bettas for a while. I enjoy my bettas, but the desire to get angelfish is getting stronger all the time.

bettas are the best bet for small tanks if not guppies.

I agree with beastkeeper, you would probably do best with a fighter in a tank that small, you dont even need air for the tank as fighter are labrinth fishes which means they can breath our air, unlike others..this is the reason why they are kept in jars in the pet store. angels do need at least a 20gal tank as they can get to about 6-8 tall.
