so i just got my diy co2 to work couple days ago, and lately i have been noticing that my angels gather just below the surface. unless i walk in the room and they think there is food, they just chill up there. they arent gasping for air, and arent exactly stessed, what could be wrong? people say its not because of the level of co2, but angels dont normally hang out on near the surface right??

Co2 is an acid, which will end up lowering your pH. The sudden pH change can be affecting your angels. Try to get some pH buffers to change to original. Angels are sensitive to water changes etc, so that could actually be it.

If its not that, the co2 may actually be draining oxygen from the tank, add a powerhead or an airstone.

Either way, I would add a powerhead or airstone, since they shouldnt be hanging out near the surface.

I completely agree with Inko. I know that when my air pump failed, within a matter of two days, the cichlids were very lethargic.

my ph is actually ok at 6.8. i heard that the amound of co2 and oxygen are independent, i guess this isnt true?

and do biowheels generate oxygen at all?

Biowheels will create surface agitaion, but I am not sure if that is enough. I would add an air stone for the angles...they need the oxygen since there is so much CO2. Also, the air stones may help the plants and fish. The plants will be getting a constant flow of new gases and the fish will have oxygen...

Either way, the airstone will help. I'm thinking the angels and co2 are connected in some way, maybe a small waterchange may help too.

i dont think its the oxygen, this morning i woke up, and looked in the tank, the angels are no where near the top. when i got back from school, they are still down below, and now the lights just came on, and occasionally they go to the top, i think its the strong lighting?
