With such a vague description, its not easy to say. What size is the fish and tank? What tankmates is it with? Is it alone or as a shoal? Is it feeding?

If you are askings for ways too identify problems then yes there are.

-Angelfish are pigs! From my personal experiance, they are almost never not hungry. If an angelfish doesn't come to the top for food, or even worse doesn't even attempt to eat for multiple meals in a row, then something may be wrong.

-Angelfish, in my experiance, are not very shy fish, but quiet the opposite. They will come to the front of the aquarium when someone is near and will often stay in the open and swim about. If an angel is being shy for no reason, then something might be wrong.

-Angelfish, as do most cichlids, have a great personality. After a while you will get to know your fish's attitudes and habbits. If an angel is acting very different from its normal habits then you may want to start watching it carefully.

Now those points were ones that just generally apply to angelfish, however there are MANY signs that apply to all fish that can shows the oncoming or attack of disease:

-loss of color
-scratching against gravel or other things
-heavy breathing
-breathing at surface
-and many many more

You may want to buy a book about fish disease or go to your library and read up on it, or look around the internet.
