[font color="#C00000"]ok well i have a breeding pair of blue acaras... and when they are breeding they are very capable of killing all the fish in the tank.. but when they are not breeding they are pretty timid fish.. i have been attacked a few times in the tank but that is when there are fry in there.. on their own they might be ok they are not suited for community tanks but for a good sized tank because they do get around 8"... so other fish small enough to fit in their mouths will be consumed.. so good sized semi aggresive fish only...
hope this helps!!

We have a Blue Acara that is quite peaceful. But his tankmates have always been other cichlids that can take care of themselves. Ours seems to crave the company of bigger SA cichlids and his current mate is a big chocolate cichlid
I personally wouldn't house a Blue Acara with anything that couldn't look after itself.

Also,Try to make sure you keep these fish in a tank of at least 50 gallon with lots of rocks, caves, and other hiding spots along with a sandy bottom.

Ok thanks for the info so far. What about these guys with Convicts in a 55 Gal? My LFS has had one for about a month or more that I have had my eye on. Let me know what you think?

I consider them more territorial than agressive. My female has a GT as a mate. When they spawn she guards the fry, he chases everyone else away.

How many convicts do you have and is there a chance they would breed? That's the only thing I'd be concerned about.

Showing off my odd pair

I have two convicts. One male and one female. They haven't spawned in quite a while and it seems like anytime they get in the mood my pleco seems to clean up the mess. The pair have been raised with other fish since they were young and don't really cause too many problems. Check out my stocking on my profile and tell me what you think. Thanks!!

Edit: Nice pic by the way! How big are they?

I have a pair of Blue Acaras and one is very aggressive yet the other is very passive. I have them in with a Jack Dempsey and they seem to hold their own, in fact the more aggressive one tends to push the jack dempsey around.

So would you risk it one in with a pair of Convicts. They are not really a breading pair. More of say a male/female friendship that don't make babys all the time.
