![]() | bolivian rams in a 29 gallon? |
vjayshutterbug![]() Fingerling Posts: 24 Kudos: 29 Votes: 0 Registered: 27-Jan-2005 ![]() ![]() | Right now I have two Bolivian Rams in a nicely set-up 29 gallon, and nothing else. Not sure yet of the sexes. I would really like a species type tank, and so how many more can I have in this size tank? Or if only two, any suggestions on some good tank mates? Tight now it looks a little bare. Thanks for any input! |

These are some of the smaller cichlids, and are also pretty peaceful as well. Bolivian rams do not guard large territories, and can typically get along with each other just fine. As long as there are places for each ram to call its own, I wouldn't be worried with six of them in there. Also, you could keep a school of small tetras in with the rams. Tetras do not add much to a tank's bioload, and in your tank they would hang out above the rams' territories. Welcome to the site, I hope you find everything you need here! ![]() |

They'll do better in pairs. You won't want to have a couple of pairs and then have two lonely "wall flowers" Welcome to the site, I haven't been on this site long but these guys have shared a wealth of knowledge with me. |

I may have lucked out and got a true pair (Male and female) because they really seem to be playing around a lot together already and hangin out with each other. One is very slightly bigger than the other. I like the idea of a species tank, so I may just get a few more later on. I have done this with electric yellows in my 30 gallon (four of them in there), and it seems to be working out fine with them, though not really sure of their sexes either. Anyway, thanks for the good info guys! |

The two up top were never really beat up, but they kept their fins closed and tried to "not be noticed" as much as possible. Just my experience - YMMV. Eric |
