I have 3 bolivian rams in a 10 gallon right now and i am waiting for them to hopefully pair off if i have a m/f. They were to young to sex when i got them but i think 2 might have paired. What behavior do they show and how old must they be to pair off?

They don't automatically pair off at a certain age, but only do so whenever it suits them. They may never pair off at all, if they are unhappy. If your rams are too young to sex, then you probably don't have a pair yet, at least not a breeding pair.

When they do decide to pair up, you'll know. Two of them will be hanging out together, possibly cleaning a potential spawning site (if they are in the mood), or picking on the lone ram. Once your rams pair off, you will have to remove that other ram before it gets beaten up.

Well i notice two of my rams are alot closer and they chase the other ram occasionally but never hurts him. But these 2 rams also chase eachother around (looks playful) and i was wondering if maybe i had a pair? they are unsexable right now but they are about an inch and a half or so without fins. So what do you think?

If they are unsexable, then you can't be too sure. However, you are describing what seems like pair behavior. Once they get a little bit larger and you can identify their genders, you will know for sure.

Sirbooks is right on target. Pairs do playfully nip and chase each other a bit (they nip at each other's flank), clean rocks, the male often digs lovely little pits in the sand in my tank to entice the female to spawn (these pits are near the rocks they clean - my male appears kind of frustrated - he has three pits around one rock right now).

I couldn't tell I had a pair, either, until they were large enough to sex. The chasing and all is likely adolescent testing of each other (to use a mammalian type of analogy).
