would anyone suggest live plants over fake plants in a lake malawi 55 gallon tank and would driftwood look weird on crushed coral if u can help me out that would be nice thanks

i think live plants would be better. You'll have to go with the more hardy types if your planning to have mbunas with them.
Make a thread in the Planted Aquaria forum and they'll help out with the plant types.


Also I heard that mbunas like to dig out plants so try putting plants onto rocks and things like that.

Yeah I agree I think live plants would look the best. I actually have never had a problem with my mbunas bothering my plants.They might occassionally dig one up while digging breeding pits but really nothing major.

I used driftwood as well as live plants in my tank. Just make sure the plants are hardy. Not much will grow in crushed coral (my substrate is aragonite and I have problems). Java fern, java moss, and floating plants will probably be the best. The plants ont he right are all fake.
