before the process of getting the tank and stabilizing it, i want to ask everyones opinion on which chichlids i should get. I have a $500 dollar budget including tank and filtration. any suggestions?

There's really alot to choose from when your talking african cichlids.
The easiest way is to do a bit of research, pick your 1 favourite and then pick suitable tankmates based around your #1 species.....

Look under profiles and then Lk. Malawi. Try Mbuna first as haps are limited for a 55g.
