i have a cichlid about 1" long it is white based with black verticle stipes n elongigated pectorial fins much like a frontosa it also has a yellowish red border on its dorsal fin
it shares the same stance as a compressiceps but has a head like a poor mans frontosa

to my knowledge its not a compressiceps n was labled atthe lfs as a tilapia
any ideas on what it could b?
thanx

My guess would be Tilapia buttikoferi also. Here's a link:

If this is what it is, be prepared for a large, very pugnacious and aggressive fish.

Mine is now 17 years old, approximately 14" in length and lives by himself because of his temperament towards any other living thing, including me.

i have two of these...fab fish, they were about 2 inches long when they were brought for me on christmas eve & are now about 8 inches long.

Very active & attentive, they do not yet beat anything else up but have eaten two black widows each one day after they looked ill.

We love them but they are in a 125G (UK) tank.

rite now i put him in a tank with bolivian rams which untill now have always fought now the 2 rams n the tilapia swim together as a thrio n there is no aggression what so ever
i will move him to a much larger tank as he grows but as of now he hides when my school of neons swim by
