tank mate, young pirhana's.
i was thinking about:
selveriums,
blue arucas,
pike cichlid.
i wanted a peaceful cichlid but that will defend itself from the pirhanas.

Nope, from my experience Pirhana'a will destroy anything else in the tank. Often each other as the smaller get eaten by the larger.

If you like the Pirhana "look" Silver dollars, or Pacu might work better. Keeping in mind Pacu's get real big...

That probably wouldn't be a good working setup. First of all, the piranhas would need a larger tank (they're red bellies, right?) and they would 'mess with' the other fish severely. Also, that tank is a little small for even the most size-challenged of pike cichlids. What species are you looking at?

There is really nothing totally safe with piranha's. They are best kept to themselves.

In very large tanks, yes they can. However a 55 isn't big enough for the pirhanas themselves let alone pirhanas and cichlids.
