All of those you mentioned get WAY too large. You could have a fish that gets to 3" at most in there. Very few cichlids fill that bill and we have mentioned all of those.

where r u located never say die?

shellies are prob more expensive if you buy them from the store, you should look for hobbyists to buy from, they are 10x cheaper then aquarium shops and their fish are always cared for better and are of higheer standards (well from what cichlids iv seen anyway!)

malawis will get way to big for your tank the min for any of they fish i would say about 50 gallons as they need quite big teritories(spelling), iw ould go with 3 rams 1m/2f blue/german both the same and very very very colour full.

Dont think i can get any shellies down here and if i can the prices will be pretty high.

i was thinking either a few ornatus, auratus or julie species or i could go with the electric yellows.

and its either my 17g cube of a 15g long tank.

I agree on the shellies. With shellies you don't want much rock work or decoration in a tank that small as all they want or really care about are shells.

i third shellies!

im hoping to set up a shellie tank aswell, occies, similis, brevis or multis, i am still researching on it all but i will probably get multis because i htink the way they colonise should be very interesting! i gues it also depends what i cna get my hands on. m having a bit of trouble finding multis here... ahh if only i lived in the states!

I second the shell-dwellers. They are small fish, are very interesting, and it is easy to establish an entire colony of them. They are very fun fish to have.

I would say if you want something different go with shellies or apistos.

You could do a breeding pair of rams or kribs pretty easy in that size tank. Or shell dwellers would work i think. Ive never kept shew dwellers so i wouldnt be much help there. If you go kribs, i wouldnt recomend trying to keep anything else with them as they get very aggressive while breeding. You might be able to get away with a couple small fish with the rams.
