First off, welcome to FishProfiles

For a ten gallon...SHELLIES!!!

These little guys from Lake Tang are adorable, breed readily, and pretty hardy if given the right conditions.

Theres a link for ten gallon cookie cutters [link=here]http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/cookie_cutter_10g.php" style="COLOR: #3c4e82[/link]

If you are interested in shelldwellers, like the multi and brevis, I suggest checking out the Lake Tang forum, and reading Mezs article in there, and then making another thread if you still have questions.

What kind of water do you have - hard or soft? Shellies are a WONDERFUL choice but if your water's naturally acidic and soft the beautiful Apistogramma species of South America might be a better option.

Another possibility, if you want an African that likes relatively soft and acidic water, is Anomalochromis thomasi, the Dwarf African Jewel Cichlid. Peaceful, easy to keep, easy to breed, gorgeous in breeding colours, a little gemn of a fish.

I wrote a piece about these a while back, but that vanished with the "Year Zero" board archiving ...

I second rams, they look good, especially with tetras.

since you want cichlid recommendations I'm gonna move this to Cichlid Central. Keep the ideas coming guys.

There are some gorgeous Appistogramma species. There are many out there who love shelldwellers as well. I can't comment much on them because I've never kept them nor done much reading on them.
