i have a breeding pair of convicts in a 33 gallon tank with lots of hides caves etc. i was wondering what species are compatible with convicts? any suggestions on bottom feeders? or any suggestions on other mid dwellers? i know convicts are agressive but i was just wondering if therer is anything that can go in with them. I wouldn't suggest putting any other fish with a breeding pair of convicts in a tank under 55 gallons. I've had a pair of 2" convicts torment and almost kill a 5" common plec. The convicts also killed a 3" red devil overnight when they when they first paired off. They were only about 1.5" at the time.

I had a pair of breeding convicts in with a much larger Texan Cichlid. The convicts usurped the Texan's cave to breed and once they bred, the Texan kept trying to get back in his cave. One morning, the babies were all gone and the female convict was missing an eye. The male also attacked me hand when I was cleaning the tank.

In sjort, I wouldn't recommend anything with the convicts, especially in a tank that small.

I used to keep 2 raphael catfish with my breeding convicts, until the male stressed the female out to death. The cats are still doing good though and can hold their own. They are currently in the tank with 1 salvini, 1 convict, 1 texas and 1 GT all male if I have them identified right and 1 female jewel that I am thinking of giving away.

In a 33 gallon tank....your options are....nothing...convicts are killers when they are in breeding mode, even the biggest of oscars would not be safe, if you wish to put more fish in that 33 you will have to get rid of one of the convicts, as they will breed very often, and will not tolerate anything in there with them.
