It sure looks like a Cyrtocara Moorii, a.k.a Blue Dolphin (never heard it called a 'lump head' myself... but you live and learn). Mine has Stripes on him, just like the profile on this site. But as with all Cichlids, they can be moody and turn their strips 'off'. Does he ever get verticle stripes? As mine lives with Oscars, he's also 'adapted' by making blue markings similar to that of an Oscar. I think that's quite clever of him! He only ever does it when the Oscars are being moody and trying to dominate him... but he gets a blue spot on his tail, and blue patches over his body Tiger Oscar style!

Yep... it sure does look like a Moorii.

Personally I don't think it really looks like a moorii - it has more of an mbuna shape to me, like a cobalt zebra or something. Is this your fish? How big is it?

I still think it looks a lot like my Moorii... and if he gets stripes, i'm even more inclined to think that. Take a look at
http://www.hagblomfoto.com/article_cmoorii.htm]http://www.hagblomfoto.com/article_cmoorii.htm[/link], [link=http://www.malawicichlidhomepage.com/haps/malawi_moorii.html]http://www.malawicichlidhomepage.com/haps/malawi_moorii.html[/link] and [link=http://www.hagblomfoto.com/c.moori.htm. The last link is about the best shot's i could find on the web of one with his stripes 'on'. Mine's a little camera shy, unlike my greedy camera hog Oscars, so i don't have any shots of him with his strips on. He's about 5" long now, and about 7 months old.

So.. whats wrong with my coke bottle glasses?? I bet you don't have the spare material to patch cracks in 2" glass just sitting around on your face . I can't get the link to the pic to work again... so i'm not going to keep arguing against you, as i really can't check the image for these distinguishing features you are asking for... Maybe i've been blinded by moorii luv Ohhhhhhhh

Malawi mbuna to be exact .

99% sure that it is a cobalt zebra, Maylandia callainos. And the gravel digging is absolutely mbuna behaviour. He needs a pretty specific tank set-up, what's the set-up like currently?

That first link is a much better picture, thanks. OK, i was wrong... it's not a Moorii... his anal fin is not long enough. The anal fin on Moorii extends from the Caudal Penuncle to just short of his pectoral fins. My mistake I'll get my glasses upgraded next time prior to looking at the photo's
