(example: my firemouth will chase/flare at other cichlids but not any other fish) -do they bother bottom feeders? Thanks ![]() ~~~~~~~~~~~~ There is water at the bottom of the ocean |

Males get between 5 and 7 inches, females about 3 to 4 sometimes a little larger -which are more agressive when kept alone, males or females? Males -at what size can they be sexed and how? At about 1.5 inches, the females will have orange on their belly -are they agressive towards other cichlids only or all fish in general? (example: my firemouth will chase/flare at other cichlids but not any other fish) It depends on the fish, mine is with 4 mollies and I have no problem but I have seen them massacre other fish -do they bother bottom feeders? Yeah, they will torment bottom feeders relentlessly, my pl*co has finally regrown his fins since I moved the con, and I had problems with cories and channel cats with cons too. |

I also concur with everything cichlidiot said. I would like to add to a couple of points though. males being kept alone are more likely to harrass other non-cichlid fish. females aren't nearly as aggressive as males when being kept alone. also, some convicts (again, when being kept alone) won't bother bottom feeders. this depends on the individual convict and how large the tank is. I have a divider in my 125 gallon, and on the smaller side (~18-24" long x 18" wide) I have several convicts living with a (granted it's full grown) pictus cat and a smaller pleco. the cons have never bothered the cat or the plec, but this could also be because there are several cons so their aggression would be spread out towards each other. bottom line...cons not being kept in pairs will be hit or miss with non-cichlid fish but the larger the tank the better your odds for success. ![]() |
