She (it's a female) defends this big old stump, even fending off the 2 big oscars she resides with. I honestly never had any problems with the convict digging up plants, but I assume they would as most med/large cichlids seem to do it. Also there is no problem with sand or gravel... This convict has been in both gravel and sand tanks with no ill effect. |

Sand or small to medium sized gravel will work. Any type of decoration that forms a cave (rocks, wood, claypots, etc.) will work for a breeding spot. Fry should be left with the parents for 3-4 weeks, until the parents are ready to spawn again. If left for too long, the fry will most likely be eaten. If taken out too early the parents may fight thinking the other is responsible for the disappearance of the fry. Jason |
