Ok, this goes back to my attempt at purchasing a male acara and ending up with what I'm 99% sure is a GT ([link=http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/forums/Cichlid%20Central/56967.html]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/forums/Cichlid%20Central/56967.html" style="COLOR: #FFFF99[/link])

The GT is now in the tank with the acara. The first evening there was a lot of chasing and biting/lip locking, I expected that. But the situation made a big change, they are now inseparable. Swimming together, eating together...now they've started cleaning the pot where the acara previously laid eggs, chasing other fish away from it, and shimmying/displaying for each other.

When I realized it was a GT my plan was to trade him in at another store to get an acara. Now I don't know what to do.

Will these two attempt to breed, or can they? If so would they end up with living, healthy fry?

Any thoughts or opinions are appreciated, this is a totally new area for me

I'd just see if the eggs are white yet, since its been a couple of days already, if its still clear they're probably viable. They're both aequidens so i guess its a possibility.

Will they...who knows.
Can they...yes.
would they end up with living, healthy fry...more than likely.

personally, if they seem happy then I'd let them be. I have noticed an odd couple in one of my tanks recently as well. My zonatus and heterospilus have been spending an aweful lot of time together cleaning a pot and moving gravel around. I'm gonna let them be but I won't let any of the fry out of my possession. You never know what will happen if you sell/give/trade some to a friend or lfs.
