Dovii might grow a bit big for a 200g i'd say 300g would be better. If you want an aggressive fish go with somthing thats aggressive that gets big but no that big. Maby a jag but he might get too big or a cuban cubans stay a little smalller. You could keep a red devil in their for around 2 years and then he would love a 200g tank.

thats why tanks are better u can put it in ur living room look across to it and see it moving up and down your tank, thats the point of having a fish to look at it, not to remove a cover to go and see it...

I never said this was a good idea for everyone. There are a lot of people that do this however. It may not be the best solution, but it is much cheaper than buying a 300+ gallon tank which is required for fish such as dovii and umbriferum.

I would seek profesional assistance. That a lot of water to go spilling out onto your flore if the dovii rams the side and breaks it.

yeh but what if the fish decided to take dive he could easily dive outta the kiddy pool

It would not be hard to make a cover for a kiddie pool. Lots of people have used kiddie pools and stock tanks, neither of which come with any kind of cover, for large cichlids.

Well i got my dovii and he is happy in his 75 for now. i am starting a new project next week, i am going to build his tank myself. i think i am going to go with the 8 by 4 and compromise and make it three feet tall. this is going to be a lenghthy project and any suggestions would be helpful. i dont think my fish will be big enough to move for a year or so, which gives me plenty of time to complete this tank.

I know a man at my local lfs that bought a small pool aroung 1000g to put his blue flecked monster in. He told me he used to snorkel with it but now its 3'10'' and it atacks him. He showed me the bite marks to boot. Iv herd of people buying those massive tanks made half of wood and half of glass this would be good so the dovii couldn't put its head through the glass.

personally, I wouldn't go with anything smaller than 8x4x2.5. I don't really see the need for all that extra height

Your other option would be to spend $170-180 on a 300 gallon rubbermaid stock tank, or even less on an 8', 10' or 12' kiddie pool. if you have a basement or garage, either of these would be a suitable home for an adult dovii.

dovii need enormous tanks as they males can reach 3' in length. jags, festae (true Red terrors), midas, red devil, umbee (depending on the dimensions of a 200 gallon), buttikoferi, and haitiensis would all get huge in a 200 gallon tank.

Any suggestions would be appreciated
