All african cichlids live in full freshwater. They don't need any cichlid salts (which aren't even salts, they are buffers to make the water harder and more alkaline).

Nattereri is right. They are buffers. I don't know about u but my water stays around 8.2 and has a hardness of 12. Perfect for electric yellows. Most tap water is hard enough and has a good ph for any malawi.

If your fish are healthy, there is no need. Cichlid salt does have some trace elements that helps keep the fish a little healthier, but it is not actually 100% needed.

If you have cichlid salt, I wouldn't see anything wrong with adding it, but just dont go buy salt just to add to the tank, waste of money.
