Well it is kinda pending if it is live fish you raised urself or live fish u have bought, if it is live fish u have bought bring them back. oscars get hole in the head way too quick when u feed them feeder fish chances are if u feed them feeders from the store at some point they are getting hole in head, put the feeders into another tank and see if they breed, then if they do feed the fry. try other live foods like brine shrimp or even night crawlers.

I wouldn't risk live fish & there are frozen foods that are good as live ones.

All live foods are a treat - as are frozen foods. To keep your tank environment healthy, i strongly recommend a varied pellet diet as the staple, with occasional pea's (once/week) and then crickets or moths or frozen food blocks once per month as a treat. Feeders are a poor choice... but sometimes a small gold fish or comet isn't a bad choice. They really need to chase those fish down, which is good exercise for them.

My two main pellets foods are Hikari Gold and Nutrafin Cichlid sticks.

as long as the babies, u know are healthy, generally u dont want to get feeder fish b/c

math:

expensive large oscar + cheap sick goldfish = dead oscar= only a few cents killed an expensive oscars.

so really fishes that are being mass produced, like goldfish, and neons and rosys are not the best to feed ur fish.

Crickets are a great choice if you gut load them first - otherwise store bought crickets have very little nutritional value. To gut load the crickets simply put them in a container for at least 24 hours with some high vitamin veggies and let them feast. That way your fish will reap the benefits. My Oscars used to LOVE crickets and grasshoppers as well as earthworms.
