	feeding cichlids
amico Hobbyist Posts: 112 Kudos: 138 Votes: 4 Registered: 05-Jan-2005	i have two convicts and a jewelle cichlid is there anything that i can feed these guy sthat i can get from my kitchen. and how many times a day is good for feeding ( i feed mine twice a day)

I wouldn't feed them anything from your kitchen regularly though, because commercial cichlid foods are so much better. They are healthier for your fish than plain 'ol meats or veggies, neither of which makes a good cichlid staple food. And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."

RustyBlade Mega Fish Posts: 987 Kudos: 1667 Votes: 391 Registered: 23-Apr-2003	My jewels often have a go at the pleco's zucchini and pumpkin but I've never seen the convict go for any of the vegies. Both enjoy a little lean meat remove any fat but just as a rare treat though

Cichlid Keeper Big Fish Posts: 368 Kudos: 466 Votes: 304 Registered: 17-Aug-2003	I feed mine cichlid flakes and pellets along with the occassional treats of frozen bloodworms or beef heart.
