mitcheese Small Fry Posts: 14 Kudos: 14 Votes: 0 Registered: 06-Sep-2004   | i used to have a pair of jewel cichlids and before they paired up they locked jaws and fought with each other. then i acted like a pair and started looking for something to breed on. but then the female decided she didnt want to breed with the male and the male killed her. now i have two dempsey's that have been locking jaws and fighting for 45 minutes straight.i was wondering if they are going to pair up or if the male is going to kill the female like with my jewel cichlids. do fish usually fight before breeding? |

In the wild they are loners like male lions and this is how territory scuffels are decided. The older and more jaw locks a JD has been in can be told by the amount of scar tissue on the top and bottom lips. Id say you have two males. |
