I bought a young jack dempsey and a young firehead about 4 months ago. They were about the same size, but now the jack dempsey is almost 2 inches longer than the firehead. I know that the firehead is a larger fish, so shouldn't it grow as fast, if not faster than the dempsey? And the tank is a 55 gallon for now until the firehead needs more space. Thanks in advance.

I would have thought the synspilum would have grown a bit quicker. However, the more dominant fish will grow a bit faster because it will take more of the food. Making sure to feed from both ends of the tank so that both fish get an equal amount of food may help. I have 2 synspilums that I've had for a while. I'm guessing here, but I think I got them sometime between March and April. They were 1" ea. when I got them and they're both now 6". I now have a third synspilum...I got one today at 1".
