I wouldn't put firemouths in a 10 gallon tank. They can get to around 4-5 inches, and can be aggressive when they are ready to spawn. The more room they have, the better. Some firemouths might be more placid, but the size of the tank matters quite a bit.

And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."

'Fraid not. They're on the softer side of the CA/SA cichlid world but still, well, cichlids. They max out around 6", so they definitely can't be kept in a 10 gal, and I wouldn't trust them with the Angels, certain livebearers (swords might work out), or the female bettas.

livebearers are great tankmates for firemouths but I'd be vary wary of adding the betta and angels. however, to keep firemouths and platys/mollies/swords together I'd recommend at least a 40 gallon tank. you might be able to keep 1 pair of firemouths and a few platys in a 29 but the firemouths themselves will do better in groups...at least as juveniles.

Jason you forgot to say why that firemouths and livebeares make good tankmates the reason is because they live together in the wild.
