	firemouths...about them...
PlatiesAREcool Hobbyist Posts: 115 Votes: 0 Registered: 24-Jun-2004	I was looking in my LFS tanks and i saw firmouths! they are really pretty and i am wondering can they go with livebearers and angel fish and female bettas? also can they be in a 10gl. tank? THANKS IN ADVANCE!!

They can get to around 4-5 inches, and can be aggressive when they are ready to spawn. The more room they have, the better. Some firemouths might be more placid, but the size of the tank matters quite a bit. And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."

They max out around 6", so they definitely can't be kept in a 10 gal, and I wouldn't trust them with the Angels, certain livebearers (swords might work out), or the female bettas. -Molly Visit shelldwellers.com!

Jason_R_S Moderator Posts: 2811 Kudos: 2421 Votes: 391 Registered: 18-Apr-2001	livebearers are great tankmates for firemouths but I'd be vary wary of adding the betta and angels. however, to keep firemouths and platys/mollies/swords together I'd recommend at least a 40 gallon tank. you might be able to keep 1 pair of firemouths and a few platys in a 29 but the firemouths themselves will do better in groups...at least as juveniles.
