Small numbers arent that great since the male bashes on the others and less chances of breeding. Good tankmates are synodontis cat that can take high pH, fish from the brichardi complex, calvus, compressiceps, julies, leleupis, plecs, etc. Most rock dwelling tangs work, that grow over 3-4" Though not reccomended by others, I have kept alot of different stuff with fronties (angelfish *yes they were happy, and breeding*, breeding convicts, firemouths, eels, gouramis, danios, etc). For substrate, its usually playsand from the hardware store (mesh 30 or 20), aragonite, or "saltwater" sand found at the LFS. Some people used crush coral but I find it annoying that you have to replenish it every few weeks. Some people use gravel, but fronties like to dig, so sand is much better. If your planning on breeding, use pots for caves. IF its a show tank, use lace rock, limestone, lava, bowl, granite, slate. |
