I am much better when someone says my tank is 1.5 feet long or whatever. What I can answer is that rams will be happier in groups of 1/2 dozen or so. ~~~ My fish blow kisses at me all day long ~~~ |

There are a couple of reasons for this, so listen up! Firstly, five gallon tanks are too small for rams, who do like a little bit of room in which to roam. Though they guard small territories, they enjoy exploring the entire tank and keeping tabs on the other inhabitants. Also, it is difficult to keep the water quality up in such a small tank. If one small problem occurs, it could build up into a big problem very quickly. The less water in the tank, the less it takes to foul up the water. This is especially important because rams are fairly delicate fish, and need superior water to thrive. Lastly, rams do prefer to be kept in pairs. If one ram won't fit in a tank, a pair certainly will not. Ten gallons would be much better suited to a pair of rams, and a few other fish besides. I hope this answers your question. ![]() |
