It's not as fine as sand at the beach, it's more like a fine pebble/stone mixure; It's color is like a natural lake bed and shows off the colors of the fish nicely. My Mbuna have great fun digging around in it. To keep the PH high I have a lot of limestone in the tank (70G). ![]() O Tempora O Mores |

I don't need any PH buffers because the PH straight out of my tap is so high. I really like the way that it makes the colors of my fish stand out. |

The Lake Malawi fish are a sub family of the family of cichlids. Species are each individual type of fish. Most of the Rift Lake cichlids will look better on darker substrate. As this will allow the fish to color up darker to try to blend into its environment. With white and brighter colors, the fish will color up more lightly to try to blend in. HTH.... There is always a bigger fish... |
