My severums always attack the gravel vac. They have bred successfully and do get agressive during that time. Currently they have 8 babies (17 survived) but many went to friends. The gold sev lets me pet her. Great fish ~ the nibbles tickle and I always jump

Heh it's actually pretty easy to tell them apart.

Males have long extension on there dorsal and anal fins
Females don't

I had a golden jaguar ( Nandopsis managuense ) who was defending about 50 fry. My daughter then 3 yrs old decided she was going to feed the fish, without permission.
I watched her climb up the stand and open the freeze dried krill.
As she opened the krill, it dumped in the tank. " Clemontine the Jag" darted to the top defending the young. My daughter saw me coming and thaught if she removed some of the evidence she wouldn't get into trouble.
She reached her hand into the tank, and THUD !! I could here her getting hit 5 feet away. She shouted and screamed, yanking her hand and Clemontine the Jag out of the tank. The fish went flying across the room, landing on a soft pillow and my daughter hit the floor bleeding. Neither Doctor or my wife thaught it was funny when my daughter got 3 little stitches in her finger.

It was funny just had to be there...
Needless to say the jaguars had to go

I think the best was when Kirby (my porcupine puffer) tried to eat my finger. I was trying to pet him and I guess he thought "Oh, krill!" because he came and bit my pointer finger and broke the nail! It didn't really hurt, though, scared me more than anything.

My Oscar's use to try and bite me... but i showed them that the hand is mighter than the fish! Not that it really hurt at the time, as they where quite small. Now, at 12" each, their mouths could easily fit my pinky in, and i'm not sure i like the idea of running around the house scrreaming with a fish attached to my finger

My Brasiliensis, on the other hand, just seems unwilling to learn. Luckily, his bite tickles more than anything... so we play a game of him trying to eat me... and me pretending my hand is a fish and trying to eat him. This goes on for a few minutes every time i feed the loaches. The only way to stop him eating ALL of the loach food is to place it by hand into spots where he can't get it. Crazy fish

"My Angels & Brichardi usually bite the Gravel Vac, but never attacked my hand."

The largest of my two angels does the same thing with a gravel vac. When I go to trim plants or scrub algae is when he bites my arm. It doesn't hurt but it's a lot more noticable then a guppy nip. And he doesn't run when I try to chase him away either.
