i was thinking of getting some haps in my 240 gallon tank
the filtration is 2 canisters 1200,1800lph and a 1200 lph sponge powerhead

tank is 8x2x2ft and has sand substrate

so i was thinking of getting
3m-5f or 2m-6f venustus
2m-4or6f fossochromis rostratus

the tank will also have 1 red empress and a pictus catfish
the other stocking idea was
2m-6f venustsus
2m-6or8f cyrtocara morri
1 red empress and pictus cat

the tank has ph 8.0 and 25-26 degress temp 250-300ppm hardness

any ideas anyone

I would go with the moori instead of the fosso's. The pictus might be a problem. I think that the water conditions just might be to high to be comfortable for him. If your looking for a african catfish I would go with Syn. Multi. I would also only go with one male venustus. Its a big tank but they're big fish and are an agressive hap. I would maybe limit some of the numbers of the groups and add some more species.

I would go with one or the other with the fosso's and the venustus. 2 possible breeding groups in a tank of almost any size would be dangerous. I would go with the venustus mostly because there easier to find and you could have some smaller species of haps with them. Some popular haps are VC-10's,Oth. Lithbates, Scie.Fryeri, Dimi.Compressceps, and Copa. Boreyli. Peacocks would work good with them to.

VC-10 are a good choice for community and borelyi often tolerate thier own kind. Champsochromis caeruleus, trout cichlid, would be interesting to try. Anything big would be cool.

I think that trout cichlids might be a little too big. There a huge cichlid that likes lots of space. If the red empress is too agressive then you could get rid of him and get some taiwan reefs.

The pictus cats will do fine in a hard water tank. I have them in my african mix tank and they do fine in the 8.0+ pH water. Just make sure the fish has it's own refuge and the other fish arent picking on it.
