Well i will soon be trying to find a pair of bolivian rams soon and was wondering how to sex them. I also would like some ideas for tank mates. I would like a nice clean up crew of course consisting of something for algae and bottom cleaning, as well as nice colors and an all around interesting tank.

What size tank are we talking about? If it is, say, a 20 gallon, then a good stocking list (in my opinion) would look something like this:

2 Bolivian rams
6 Corydoras catfish (active, interesting, and then clean up leftover food)
1 bristlenose pleco (they have character, and are great algae eaters)
6 small tetras (to occupy the middle of the tank, add color, and so that you've got a schooling fish)

Sexing these guys isn't as easy as it is with their cousins, the German ram. Check out [link=this]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/forums/Cichlid%20Central/51280.html" style="COLOR: #808080[/link] thread for help.

I hope that your can find a pair of rams. Bolivian rams are pretty neat fish, as you will (hopefully) soon find out.

yea im gonna go talk to the guy at the lfs and see if he can find me a pair...i heard they are alot easier to breed then the germans though otherwise german rams would be a good choice as well. I know he has some kind of a red ram there.

A "red" ram? Maybe this is some color variation of German or Bolivian rams, because I've never heard of it. Otherwise, it is probably an Apistogramma cichlid, given the name of "ram". Very interesting. Can you find out the species name from this store?

i'm not positive but i believe it is called a "longfin ram". I went to the lfs before i read this msg so i didn't check on it again . Although he did have about 5 nice bolivian rams for sale though I went out and got a quick 10 gallon with all the fixings so i can get them before they sell...only problems now is cycling my 10 gallon, learning the best way to sex them, and hoping they don't sell before my tank cycles.
