The stocking level sounds fine, I wouldn't add any more fish. Convicts can grow to eight inches, so they take up quite a bit of room. I don't know if dither fish are needed, I suppose you might be able to add a school of barbs. The cichlids would probably ignore them, I think.

And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."

I would imagine the acara's would probably beat on your dwarfs. If you like dwarfs, make the tank a dwarf tank alone. Then you will also have more stocking options. Make sure you watch out for aggression levels if they decide to breed. For good reference on smaller fish and some of the bigger ones with plenty of pics go here http://www.tangledupincichlids.com/photo.html]http://www.tangledupincichlids.com/photo.html[/link] Plus if you order from the guy who runs this site (Jeff Rapps) you get quality fish I just got two of these guys in three days ago [link=my fish

Definately can't mix the acara's with the dwarfs.

The first option works... but the convicts will move the plants all over the place...

Convicts rarely get more than 6 inches... a pair will be fine in a 4 foot tank but any additional convicts will eventually mean trouble.

Mojo (from aquamojo.com) has an 8-8.5" male convict. granted this fish has lived its entire life in a several hundred (or possibly thousand) gallon pond, but still it's a huge convict. typically in tanks, males will max. around 6".

a male convict only needs a 100 gallons to reach 8" I took mine almost 5 years to reach the length with water changes every month.
