how many electric yellows could i have in a 46 gallon bowront these are my fav chiclid and i want just them and maybe a cleanup crew

1 male and 5 females would be a good number. Then you could have a couple of the smaller synodontis catfish for cleanup.

without the cleanup crew do i still have to have 7 and what type of sand do they need i have like some artificial roots for caves and they have thick underbrush made into them that good? and what part of the tank do the swim most in could i have 7 females 3 males if i plant it good or is that to much?


sorry i have so many questions but i havent bought these chiclids yet and im trying to get all the information i can on them before i get them
im just that type of personi like to know everything

No none of the eels would be very good with yellow labs or they would overstock the tank. 2 or 3 small synodontis would be the best. Yes yellow labs can be hard to sex, venting them is the only accurate way.

I think you could get away with 10 of them, so long as you have really good filtration and maintenance. I have twice that in an 80 gallon, with more aggressive breeds as well.

You definitely would have to keep up with water changes with ten in there. If has a good potential to go bad quick if water changes are not done.

The problem with that many labs isn't bio-load but territory. 10 5 inch mbunas wouldn't do very good in a 3ft tank.

is there any way i can go with 6 or 8 and do an angelfish?

A penguin 350 wouldn't be enough. You need a filter that can pump at least 500gph. Angelfish and yellow labs are not good tankmates. 6 yellow labs would be about it for that tank. Make sure you don't have more than one male.
