are you referring to Nimbochromis livingstonii? it's very similar looking to a venustus. they're haps but will eat anything they can fit in their mouths. they get about 10" (just like the venustus) so make sure you've got room before diving in.

hope that helps.

They are best kept in a 6 foot 125 gallon tank or bigger. As said above males can get to 10+ inches and are capable of eating Mbunas 5 inches big. They have a very interesting hunting technic though. They will play dead and attract other fish end when they get close enough it will snatch them up.

As mentioned it's a hap that WILL eat anything it can get in it's mouth..
Max size, easily over 8". best kept in groups in a very large tank.

Not suited for anything less than a 100g, http://]http://[/link][link=http://www.cichlid-forum.com

go to gallery, then Malawi haps, then find the fish we're talkin about....

You definitely shouldn't mix this fish with mbuna as they are very much piscivores - they could possibly eat smaller mbuna once they reach adulthood, and then there are the dietary conflicts in keeping them with the herbivorous mbuna.

http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/n_livingstonii.php

Marc Elieson on cichlid-forum reports specimins exceeding 10" in length (and mentioned several times in this thread), not a max of 8".

Is this for the 140G tank Malawi Freak?
