how big is your jack dempsey?

chances are, if he hasn't eaten your fish, he will later.

IME as long as the other fish are too big for him to eat and they stay out of his space, they'll get along. But Jacks grow and Tetras don't get very big so that you might end up with a fat Jack and no Tetras.

Good luck, Mike

well hes about 5" and has been eating pellets and frozen foods and has always had other cichlids around him. but the tetras were the cycle fish that keep on truckin.

so he will just push away unwanted intruders or will he start to fight like Jack Dempsey?

I don't think he'd fight with'em because they're so small. He'll either eat'em or he won't.

I had an Angelfish in with a Jack and he ignored it. I think because it had a different shape and so wasn't a threat to his terrritory. He'd raise hell with the Oscar and Severum though. Maybe the tetras are small enough that they aren't a threat.

I am sorry to hear that aswell, but I dont find it odd or unexpected. Jack dempsey are a predatory fresh water cichlid that are aggressive and large enough to eat and or kill smaller fish. Jack dempsey should be kept in species only tank or in a cichlid tank with other similarily sized cichlids.
