I was thinking about getting 2-3 juvenile keyholes to put in a 20-gallon (24x12x12) with a school of 8-10 neon tetras and 3 ottos. It is a planted tank with gravel substrate and has several rocks to hide under. The tank has been up and running since early December and is fully cycled.

I would like to hear about others' experiences with keyholes. I'm interested in their behavior, compatibility with other fish, what they like to eat, should I replace the gravel with something finer, is the 20-gallon tank an acceptable size etc.

Please share your wisdom with a newbie.

I have a pair of Keyholes in my 46 gallon tank and they are great. The 20 gallon might be a little small when they get full size. I have mine with corys, Rummynose tetras,Harlequin rasboras, and a pair of angels. Everyone gets along fine. When I fist put them in they were quit timid. They hid in the back and under my wood formations. But they soon warmed up and are alway swimming around especially when they think food is coming. I feed mine flakes and bloodworms. and once or twice a week they get some frozen bloodworms. They are great fish and you will enjoy them.

Thanks for the information. I've already decided to put them in my 40-gallon tank. I'm so excited
