i'm getting one angel for my tank as i have lots of fry every week and know angels would enjoy them. at LFS today i saw some koi angels at 5 each around $7-10, Good?

also i have always been told to not buy fish with red/pink gills. all the koi angelfish had pickish and some red gills. is this just because of their light colours or are they ill

$7-10 is great for the kois. Make sure they are real kois and not gold marblescales.

What do you mean pink/red gills? On the outside or on the inside?
If its on the inside thats fine, as long as they arent pale. Pale means poor water quality they are kept in , or the fish is not in good condition. A pale pink means the fish is anemic, aka dont buy it!

Not sure about if its red/pink on the outside.. I think kois are like that.

The pink on the outside of the gills is a trait on all Koi Angels. It is known as blushing. Without it,they would not be Koi.
