no, that's not correct. here are the results of a google search on Hypselecara temporalis (chocolate cichlid). if you'd like you can read through these sites and get lots of information on the species, but the most common max. size listed is closer to 30 cm. or 12".

Jewel Cichlids are suited for that tank, are very colorful, have attitude and will probably breed in there which could make things interesting for you
You'll be either selling of giving those fry away to the LFS..

I agree. wait till you get the big tank and then get some of those larger cichlids. this is the best bet if you want your fish to grow properly and be healthy.

A lot of people get ideas from the 'cookie cutter' articles at Cichlid-forum.com, maybe you could look through and see if any of them look interesting to you:

I am pretty sure the most commonly found cichlid referred to as the Chocolate cichlid is Hypselecara temporalis. the others would be a bit harder to find I believe.

According to Dr. Axelrod's MiniAtlas the "Chocolate Cichlid" (Cichlasoma coryphaenoides) can grow up to 25cm or about 10 inches. The "Chocolaty Cichlid" (Cichlasoma hellebruni) reaches 30cm or about 12 inches. I also found web searches on Hypselecara temporalis listing it as the "Chocolate Cichlid". Is my MiniAtlas outdated? I have had it for about 15 years. Maybe there have been revisions and I need a new reference guide.

personally i really dont like convicts, i dont know if its just a biased opinion because i had some really mean ones with a larger oscar who couldnt hold his own and so endedup being bullied 24/7 and losing scales/and getting majorly stressed out!

i have moved the convicts into another tank but find them frustrating to watch because they always look so nervous everytime u go near the tank and endup trying to hide all the time so i dont really get to see the convicts playing round unless i can creep up2 the tank and watch them without them seeing me.

im not sure whatelse u can put in that tank instead, jewel cichlids r nice, but i know id rather put anything but convicts in there! anyway thats my 2 cents worth! sorry to all the convict lovers out there, its just my opinion!

Usually it takes a while to fix profiles, and more to even add one. Usually if there is an error, you can email Adam about it, and he'll try his best to fix it, even though hes working on a bunch of other stuff to improve the site at the moment.

The profiles here are usually submitted by members of this forum. The members might have not been exactly clear on the actual statistics and information of the fish.

chocolate cichlids will grow too large for a 30 gallon tank. I believe they grow to somewhere in the 8-12" range and are quite stocky.

apisto's, a male or female krib (not both if you want to have other fish though), maybe a smaller angel (gold var. don't get too big for a 33 from what i've heard) and either blue or bolivian rams, so long as they're male if you've got more than one- I'de reccomend a pair of them. You could do a few kinds of aulonocara's, though watch aggression and pH if you're doing community. Maybe a convict julie? Anyhow, you've got lots of options depending on what you're willing to do with pH and other fish in the tank.

Would you be interested in going african cichlids? If so, there are some really nice and unique species. Tanganyikan has some more "unique" species, and Malawi has some more active and colorful. Victorian are like Malawi.
