That's how the water is in their natural habitat. Personally, pH isn't a problem in most tanks, even if it is very high or low. The pH in my South American tank is over 8.0, and none of my fish have had any problems with it. As long as the pH is constant, there shouldn't be any trouble at all. |

It will also help harden the water. You can use some rocks such as tufa within your tank as well. These rocks are cheap at landscaping places. Just as suggested above keeping at constant ph is far better than trying constantly adjust it. Much less stressful on fish. A ph of 8.0 is acceptable range for malawi fish.
