A twenty gallon high tank is the absolute minimum, it gets the nod because it is a good deal taller than the twenty long. Angels are tall fish, so they need tall tanks. Twenty-nine gallons would be better though, especially since they have more swimming room.

A thirty for keeping anything other than a pair of breeding angels.

I'd recommend a 29g simply because of the height of the tank.

taller tanks are better for angelfish.. they are known as "deep fish" so they need taller tanks so 29 gallons would be the minimum, but in a 33 gallon you could have a group of 6 juviniles

Although you couldput an angel in a 29 gallon, I really wouldn't recommend it. They are very tall, big fish. I have an adult angel in my 55 gallon, and I really wouldn't put him in less. I mean, really, does anyone want to give just the minimum for their pets?

They shade the glow of it with their mossy-misty costumes,
They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver,
So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces.

I agree with Janna. Angels do grow fairly big (tall) and I think a 29g is too small for a full grown adult.
Maybe it's just me, but I like giving my fish the extra space.

I'm sure the angel would much rather a 55g+

I know some peolpe that had one in a 10g and it was mad. It was way to big for a 10g and very aggressive. They were ready to flush it because it was killing all thier other fish. I wanted to tell them they were idiots but I also wanted them to give me the fish so I kept it to myself and took the fish home. Because of the aggression of this fish, I was afraid to put it in my 40g with tetras and such so I put it in a 20g untill I figured out what to do with it. I dont know how bad it was in the 10g but in the 20g this fish was very aggressive. It is now named "the Punk". The punk is now in a 40g and is way more peaceful. Yes, even with tetras. There are some equally larg fish in there that keep the punk in check but no fights yet. A 40g works well. All fish including the punk are happy.
