Dovii, but probabbly because it gets about 2-3 times as big as the others and it knows how to use its size to its advantage, and dovii are pretty much known as monsters since they'll usually require a 280g+ to themselves

Although he's not a massive fish in size, a male auratus is a wicked little fish. They are highly intelligent and get quite bored very quickly. Mine's current pasttime is trying to figure out how to Eat my kitten when she sets at the tank.

I'll second that. Very intelligent and very able to kill most other fish. Like to do guerilla style ambush attacks. Pound for pound one of the toughest cichlid in my mind.

I've seen M. chipokae listed a few times as the most aggressive African. Never kept them nor auratus though so I can't comment personally. Many cichlid enthusiasts agree that the incredibly rare exCichlasoma beani is the most aggressive cichlid overall.

I have a 3 inch red devil mixed with midas cichlid at home...he is a gorgeous fish...but he is crazy...i have tried him in all my tanks...he beat up my oscar who is about 5 inches, he beat up my JD that is also about 5 inches so for now he is by himself in a 48 gallon. In my opinion if you go pound for pound the convict is the most aggresive though... i mean imagine if that fish grew to like 16 inches? they'd have to rename it the mass murderer convict.

If size is not an issue, I would say the male auratus. It even looks angry when provoked it turns an very pale ghostly color. I should not say when provoked, because the auratus will do most of the provoking in a tank.

I've heard Flowerhorns can be quite nasty, but if you want pound for pound aggression, especially if they're breeding, I personally think you can't go past a convict. My male is currently nailing my male GT who is three times his size.
